For your final paper, you will pick a U.S. Senate race from 2020 or 2018 where the general election had a female and male candidate and analyze whether there were differences in political coverage.
You should look both at the coverage and what the candidates and campaigns were saying (earned, paid and owned media; traditional and social media sources) so you can analyze the reasoning of the type of coverage they received (i.e. Are the issues covered the ones the candidates focused on or different ones?) You should also look at the candidates’ television ads and other public appearances to see whether traits and characteristics covered stemmed from the candidate or the media. You should apply the lessons learned over the weekend course and the readings from the class. The analysis should focus on the woman candidate but you should use comparisons to ensure that your analysis is complete.
