CIS
220 Assessment: For the Week 6 Assessment, you will complete and submit the
following items:
Data design is an important aspect of system design in terms of
organizing, storing, and managing data. Data quality and consistency is also
important in system design, as companies are using the data for important
business decisions.
Consider a veterinary clinic that needs an updated database to
better serve its clients. The owner of the veterinary clinic tells you that the
database should have the following tables to get started. Veterinarians,
Clients, Pets, Services Available, Appointments. The database will be extended
once the first phase of the database design and implementation has been
completed.
Determine the fields that could
be included in each of the five tables.
Determine which field in each
of the five tables should be used for the primary key. Remember that the
primary key field should uniquely identify the members or records of a
table.
In data design, tables have
relationships that fall into one of three categories: One-to-One,
One-to-Many, and Many-to-Many. Describe each of the three types of
relationships. Determine which tables in the database could be related and
the type of relationship that relates the tables.
Data control is an important
aspect of data design. There are many aspects to data security, such as
securing the database by limiting or controlling access to the database
and encrypting the data in the database. Discuss the following terminology
associated with data control and security as well as the importance of
maintaining data control: permissions, encryption, backup and recovery
procedures, audit log files, and audit field.
System architecture is the last chapter in the systems design
phase, and it is important to understand because it translates the logical
design of an information system into a physical structure that includes
hardware, software, network support, processing, methods, and security. A
systems analyst considers several issues that are combined in an overall
architecture checklist. You will consider some of the items on the checklist in
the following question.
Consider scalability and web
integrations as it relates to system architecture. Discuss how these
concepts relate to the Veterinary database.
The purpose of this assessment is to show your understanding of
the topics listed above. It is not sufficient to state your opinions alone; you
must be able to backup your responses by applying concepts and topics from the
text with the information that supports your findings.
Be as thorough as possible when writing your
responses, and remember, this is an academic assignment, so no “text-talk,” no
conversational tone, and ABOVE ALL OTHER THINGS… don’t plagiarize!!
Lastly, spell-check and proofread your work! Failure to follow
these steps will negatively impact your grade.
General APA Formatting Guidelines:
The chapter exercise should have an APA title page and an
