For this assignment, you will be preparing an essay that identifies, describes and analyzes a current issue (occurring within the past 5 years) that has been in the news and/or the courts and that involves unions and labor relations. You will also share original thoughts on the future of unions in the U.S. as well as a critical analysis of some of the most significant challenges unions will likely face over the next 5-10 years.
You should prepare an 1200-1500 word, APA formatted-essay that addresses all of the above points.
For this assignment, please address each of the following:
Identify a current issue (occurring within the past 5 years) that has been in the news and/or the courts and that involves unions and labor relations. Include a description and explanation of the origins of the issue, as well as all key facts and involved parties. Summarize the facts surrounding the event/situation and clearly identify the issue(s) raised by the event/situation.
Discuss and explain the variety of arguments that would most likely be raised on both sides of the issue/case. Make sure to address competing perspectives. Analyze the strengths and weaknesses of the competing perspectives under U.S. labor law. Identify all laws that are implicated by the event/situation.
Share a critical analysis of the issue/case, evaluate the strength of the arguments on both sides of the issue/case and present your recommended/preferred resolution. Include a discussion of the strongest and weakest arguments on both sides of the issue/case. Share your personal perspective on how you believe the issue/case should be resolved.
Identify and articulate several of the most significant challenges unions will likely face over the next 5-10 years. Highlight the likely origins of the noted challenges. Summarize some of the factors contributing to the noted challenges. Discuss the relative strength of each described challenge.
Conclude with an original analysis and discussion of your thoughts on the future of unions in the U.S. Include predictions for growth as well as influence. Explore and consider the potential for international pressures to impact the future of U.S. unions.
