The world leaders gathered in Glasgow on 31 October – 12 November for the 26th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP26) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) treaty that came into force in 1994. One of the objectives was to ‘inspire climate action’.
In this essay you will present an argument for a specific energy transition in a specific country. The argument should follow the logic of the InTIME Methodology following the structure:
Identify an essential end use of energy in a location in a country, how that energy is currently provided, and analyze how it poses a wicked problem. You can use images and present data with references to give the background and problem definition.
1. Present a brief exploration of the history of how this energy system developed, focusing on how the essential need was met.
2. Next focus on the energy supply used to provide the end use at your chosen location in your chosen country.
3. Then give a crash test critical examination for one key energy policy in this country. Describe the policy related to the energy system needed to meet the essential need and give a basic numerical evaluation of the future probability of success of this policy to meet the stated objectives.
4. Then, time travel to 2121 and give a brief description of country and the energy resources it will be using.
5. Finally, propose one carbon downshift project that could be carried out today, that would result in the transition of the energy service in the location in your chosen country to renewable and sustainable energy.
