It needs to be a 15 page paper with including and this is the ntroduction: You must write a minimum of one page to introduce your paper. The introduction
must contain the purpose/objective of the paper and research question(s).
Literature Review: For the next several pages, you must summarize at least 13 articles from
google scholar or academic search complete. All you need to do is go to google scholar online
and find at minimum 13 scholarly articles on your topic (make sure you reference them in the
paper) and discuss the articles. You do not have to discuss the statistics. You need to read and
understand the article, but you do not have to discuss the methods or statistics. You must read
the abstract and discussion to understand the articles though. Summarize and synthesize the
articles and try to find themes throughout the articles (such as gender, age, race, or other
related themes). The Literature must be synthesized by themes not one article after another or
you will not receive points on this section.

Referencing Material:
Make sure you reference the articles in your paper (if you don’t then you are plagiarizing), and
make sure you have a reference section at the end. Citing is a MUST for this paper. You must
paraphrase and cite at the beginning or end of each sentence in the Literature Review. For
example (citing in the beginning): According to Smith and Jones (1990), crime is caused by
multiple family and economic factors. Another example (citing at end): Crime is caused by
multiple family and economic factors (Smith and Jones 1990). If multiple authors stated similar
or identical statements, then paraphrase and use multiple citations: Crime is caused by multiple
family and economic factors (Smith and Jones 1990; Truman and Patten 2010; Van Buren and
Carter 2005). If you are going to use a direct quote, then quotation marks must be used and a
page number of the article must be placed in the cite at the end. For example, “Crime is not a
universal concept” (Sutherland 1990, 357). You need to paraphrase the majority of the paper. I
will take off if the majority of the paper is block quotes or direct quotes.
Theory: This needs to be a minimum of ¾ -1 page. For your paper, choose a criminological theory that best pertains to your topic and apply it. You must describe how the theory was developed including the theorist/theorists, and how the theory explains the crime or crime topic you chose. Remember to cite where you retrieved your material. (There’s a Theory PowerPoint on Canvas
to help. The only information you need is on the PowerPoint. You should only cite the author of
the theory.)
Methods: This needs to be a minimum of 1 to 2 pages. The methods section should consist of
the following segments: Population/Sample, Variables, and Analysis. Look at Paper
Format/Outline on Canvas.
Conclusion: A minimum of one page concluding YOUR findings. This should include policy
implications and future research.
Paper Sections:
a. Introduction- minimum of 1 page summarizing what you will discuss in your paper
b. Literature Review-minimum of 13 synthesized scholarly articles (will probably need more)
c. Theory Application-minimum ¾ -1 page
d. Methods- minimum 1 to 2 pages
e. Conclusion- minimum of ½-1 page summarizing your findings
f. References-(This does not count for your 12 pages)
Your paper MUST be a minimum of 12 full pages, 12-point font, Times New Roman, with 1-inch
margins. (It can be double-spaced.) A title page, reference page, tables, or any extra pages or
figures will not count toward the 12 pages. I want 12 pages of content.
(The paper has to be formatted in either Chicago or APA format.)
This is what my teacher wants with it.
Semester Paper
(Check Schedule for Due Date)
During the course of the semester, you must write one paper called a RESEARCH PROPOSAL.
(We will be discussing it extensively in class so do not fret about that.) Google scholar and
library resources will provide you with several scholarly articles on your topic. Once you review
the articles, you will notice that there are different sections: Introduction, Literature Review,
Methods, and References. There may be other sections depending on the journal. The sections you need to do are the following: introduction, literature review, theory application, methods,
conclusion and references. Research Question: 1 DV and 2 IVs) [You can only use 1 control variable as
an IV (i.e gender, age, race, etc.)] Your research question must be in the format: “What is the
relationship Independent Variable 1, Independent Variable 2, and Dependent Variable.”
