Salsa Dance Project

This is a research-based final project. Therefore, I expect exceptional work that took time, research and consideration.
After instructor approval, decide how you would like to present the project. You can use any platform when designing the aesthetic vision of your presentation. This platform is where you will post the research/written materials of your topic and make sure the presentation is cohesive and represents the subject chosen.
Next, you will begin your research process. Spend some time finding information, videos, and images about your assigned dance topic. As you research, keep in mind the four content areas that you will need to address (historical/geographical context, artistic context, cultural relevance, and current practice). How is your information starting to align with those areas? You will gather at least 3 text resources, 2 videos (embedded and cited) and 3 images (embedded and cited).
Textual Sources: Students must cite at least three scholarly textual sources (this includes sources found online) in their works cited. You can use as many resources as you find, but the minimum is 3!
Books, official/professional websites, videos
Choose sources applicable to your topic.
Do not use: Wikipedia, Wiki Answers, Answers.com, Infoplease.com
Visual Sources: Students must include and embed at least 5 visual resources for their dance topic. This could include a video from Youtube, Hulu, Vimeo, a relevant meme, or any kind of photos that can be uploaded from the Web or scanned into your computer. Once again, you can use as many photos or videos as you like, but there is a minimum of five required. The images must directly relate to your ideas discussed and the images MUST be cited within the project and in the works cited at the end. Please embed your visual resources.
Questions to consider when watching videos;
Does this video depict a certain style or time period?
How do elements of this video tie in with your other research?
Does is support what you are presenting? If not, don’t include it in your presentation.
Remember: videos are part of your research – so watch SEVERAL. But you do not need to present ALL of the videos you researched into your presentation.
You should have at least THREE textual resources and FIVE image sources listed in a final WORKS CITED that will appear at the end of your project whichever platform you choose. The Citations will be in MLA format
3. Your project will have four sections after your thesis/introduction of the dance subject and before the final Works Cited section:
Historical/Geographical context: In 2-3 paragraphs, give the reader a general history of your selected dance topic. How did this particular dance fit into its historical culture? What was its origin? When? How and why? How has, if at all, helped shape the landscape of dance? Be sure this is not all put into one slide, spread the research out and organize it well.
Artistic context: In 2-3 paragraphs, tell the reader details about your selected dance topic that contribute to its artistic context. Who dances or doesn’t dance? Why? Why significant in the dance realm?
Cultural relevance: In 2-3 paragraphs, tell the reader why this dance subject is important. Is it respected among all members of society? Has this relationship changed throughout history, or remained the same since its origin? Interesting Facts?
Current practice: In 1-2 paragraphs, tell the reader about the current practice of your selected dance topic. Discuss any changes that your topic might have gone through, and the reasons for those changes. If the dance topic has remained true to its original form, discuss how this might have happened. Has today’s society impacted your dance topic?
Insert these section titles into your presentation. Then write a topic statement for each of your four content areas. Your topic statements define your idea about each content area in direct relation to your dance and culture. Each of these topic areas should have several slides.
The questions included in the description are only starting points to help guide research- do not limit yourself to just these questions…be creative in how you investigate your dance subject! To get an “A” you must go above and beyond.
