Your company has just won the contract to clean a 250,000-gallon tank previously used for storing hydrogen sulfide. According to your safety director, the tank is empty but recent sampling and analysis by a third party indicate that the tank contains hazardous atmosphere. OSHA 29 CFR 1910.146 contains requirements for practices and procedures to protect employees from the hazards of entry into permit required confined spaces. Your safety director has assigned this project to you as the safety officer for compliance with OSHA regulation to protect the employees who may be assigned to perform the clean-up operation.
1. What is a permit required confined space?
2. Implement the measures necessary to prevent unauthorized entry;
3. Identify and evaluate the hazards of permit spaces before the employees enters;
4. Develop and implement the means, procedures, and practices necessary for safe permit space entry operation.
The report should be a minimum of four pages but not more than six pages.
