These are required elements that should be included in your paper:
1) Historical Background: There is a tremendous amount of information on this crisis. You can examine the Wall Street
Journal and the New York Times for full coverage. Also, on Hulu, if you have access, they did an incredible 8 part series
titled: Dopesick. You will need to detail a comprehensive understanding of the
2) Lawsuit- This will likely be one of the largest portions of your paper. There are numerous details of the lawsuits. Please
focus on the arguments of the both sides of the lawsuit(s).
3) Statistics: What do we know about the Opioid crisis? Detail status from the CDC, NIH and NHDA
4) Government Response(s) What is the response from government agencies(s). This should include all that had a direct
response to the crisis. There are too many to list here.
5) Treatment and Deterrence: Explain what experts are saying about the crisis. What are some things that are working and
what are some short and long term goals. Is there any current legislation? What representatives or senators are paying
attention to this issue? You will need to include names and potential legislation.
6) Analysis: 1) Discuss the overall social cost (deaths), do not just list numbers but discuss. Explain the economic costs
associated with this crisis 2) Explain how different cities have approached this issue 3) How did Fentanyl and Heroin make
the situation worse 3) Discuss the geography: what arseas of the country experienced more issues than others parts?d
Explain why? 4) Explain ONE short term and ONE longs term implication ( consequence of something that is unseen but that
you can make a conclusion about) 5) If you were a U.S. Representative or a U.S. Senator, what are 2 things that you would
propose 6) Explain the two proposals to include a timeline for implementation
