You should develop your research projects based on your own interests and inquiry. You may choose to research and write about any topic that is related to laughter, humor, and comedy. The best research projects are ones in which you are interested and invested, so you are encouraged to investigate our course theme from any perspective that interests you.
Students should develop a research question based on their interests and what they’d like to learn about our subject now. Consider the “big ideas” that we’ve briefly touched on, the types of humor you’ve analyzed, and the various ways that humor comes up in your lives, and develop a question to guide your research. Once you have conducted research, you should compose an essay that forwards a clear thesis answering your research question and supports the thesis with humorous examples and independent research.
