Think carefully about the implications of the various human rights (‘Articles’) in the Universal Declaration. All of these articles posit certain rights and guarantees for all human beings. These include an adequate standard of living, equal pay, access to quality education, tolerance/understanding of differences, etc.
Choose a human right from the list (if there is another ‘right’ that is related to the one you choose, you may also include that). Address the following questions:
To what extent are those rights being accomplished or violated? How so? (provide examples). Are they supported or hindered by social institutions (the US/Global economy, education, the media, etc.)?
Refer to at least 3 literature/academic/data sources. Apply relevant concepts/terms discussed in class.
What are some actions people can take to advance/advocate for these rights? Draw from history, past social movements (actions taken in the past that led to social change); contemporary techniques (e.g., social media); and/or actions you observed during your service-learning. Do you think the aims of the organizations you participated with (and the time you spent helping them) have had an important impact on ensuring that basic human rights are being met?
You might want to think about other organizations within our communities that are working to help the oppressed and ensure that basic human rights are being met.
You can discuss their goals and missions and how they relate to the Universal Declaration and to the topics discussed in this course throughout the semester.
**Your essay should be 3-5 double-spaced pages, utilize 12-point, Times New Roman font, and 1″ margins all around.
**You should include a properly formatted APA title and reference page.
**Cite your literature sources in APA: Use in-text citation and include a reference page.
