INSTRUCTIONS: Write a 700-word evaluation of one of the below articles from The Atlantic. The evaluation should focus on how the writer is appealing to the three rhetorical appeals: ethos (credibility), pathos (emotion), and logos (logic).
ETHOS: How is the writer establishing that the writer is someone readers can trust on this subject? Look at the writer’s tone and ability to look at multiple sides of an issue, the level of research the writer has conducted for this article, what you know about the writer’s background, etc.
PATHOS: Is the writer making readers feel certain emotions as they read the article? If so, what emotions, and how/why? What details or word choices inspire emotions in the readers?
LOGOS: How is the writer using facts/evidence/examples in order to make the article’s argument stronger and understandable to readers?
