1. What is the power that words have? Why is the protagonist of Senselessness affected by what he read and, what consequences did it have on his personality? Do words in our current society affect us? Do they affect us the same way as the protagonist is affected, or in other ways and for what reasons?
2. Choose and analyze a section, or sections, of the novel that made a particular impression on you. Your selection may be of any length, taken from any part of the book, and may consist of linked sections that describe or address a particular theme that reappears throughout the story.
3. Pick any of the novel’s themes, or constellation of themes (War, Fear, Horror, Cruelty, Torture, Death, Distrust, Corruption, Danger, Moral Dilemma, Courage, Hope/Hopelessness, Despair, Dreams, Escape, Experience, Perseverance, Sympathy/Empathy, Selflessness, Strength, Survival, Trust, Uncertainty, etc.) and relate it/them to the present state of affairs in the world. Do not make a simple comparison, but an analysis of how the subject matter of the novel is relevant to the world we live in.
