As augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) become more common, retail and e-commerce are experimenting with ways of making the purchasing experience more immersive.
While still in its early days, e-commerce applications of VR might give us a glance into the future. For that reason, I have incorporated the opportunity for each of you to experiment at home with this new technology, by lending each student a new Oculus 2 VR headset which will be utilized in the next few weeks to explore the possibilities of VR in e-commerce.
In preparation for this experiment, please follow the following instructions:
Watch the following video on what we can expect in virtual e-commerce in the next few years: https://youtu.be/GQjuEygcS3A
You will receive instructions from our partner library (Baruch College’s Newman Library) on how to either pick up or receive the Oculus 2. [Please expect an email from Baruch explaining the process.]
I will suggest you compare and contrast a few of the early adaptations of VR by 2 major companies: Walmart and Dyson. For that purpose I attach explanatory videos from both companies here: a) Dyson: https://youtu.be/n3eX3dZa4Dg b) Walmart: https://youtu.be/UNMHH0kIpPE
Please answer the following question for this week’s discussion forum: Which types of companies do you think can best benefit from the integration of VR tools and techniques? Why?
