ithin the last century, pictorial story-telling in mediums such as comic books and graphic novels is considered less sophisticated than standard novels comprised entirely of text. Only recently, some academic institutions and scholars have started to recognize comics and graphic novels as a legitimate form of literature.
What can students learn from reading comic books as a part of their curriculum in grade school, high school or college?
developed paragraphs with a clear thesis with 3 claims in the introduction.
Each body paragraph should reference at least one text to support a claim in your thesis.
Because this is a sort of impromptu essay, I will not be a stickler from grammar and other smaller things (although it should be obvious that you proofread it before submitting it). I will grade you based on your ability to coherently and intelligently answer the prompt, using specific examples (books) to support your ideas.
I am not looking for a research paper, per se. That is, I do not expect you to cite secondary sources, but I do expect you to reference specific comics and/ or graphic novels either covered or not covered in class (though it would be nice if at least one came from a text we covered). It may also help if you target a specific level of education because it will make for a more coherent answer. For example, it would be discombobulating to read something along the lines of the following: “Comics can teach people about the importance of sharing and show them the consequences of super-powers going unchecked in a draconian government. Note that the first claim seems fit for a lower-level grade-schooler while the second is more fitting of a college student. It seems as though the writer does not have a target age group for their answer.
