After learning the effects that drugs and alcohol have on individuals, families, and society, we end the semester learning about prevention and treatment. As we have explored, prevention dollar spending pales in comparison to treatment and interdiction. Much research is still needed about how to prevent substance use disorder. After reading the information in the book and researching prevention programs, the student will create their own prevention program ‘pitch’.
Of Note–I will permit students to work individually, or in groups for this assignment. If you are going to be working as a group, your group must notify me via email NO Later than 2 weeks before the due date. You will communicate this intention by *1* group member emailing me the group member’s names, and you will cc each on the email. **One caveat-If you choose a group project, each member must write and submit (separately) a half-page overview of their role producing the assignment.
The program ‘pitch’ should include:
The target audience – elementary, middle school, high school, adults- and rationale behind this choice
How will the audience be attracted to the program?
Outline of the program essential activities/functions- this should be one full 1 page
What are the goals of the program?
What evidence supports the effectiveness of the program? (reputable sources)
How will you measure the effectiveness of the program?
Finally, Include a one-page factsheet/flyer that provides an overview of your proposed project that you might share with a potential funder who could sponsor your program.
This assignment should not exceed 4-5 pages including the flyer, but excluding the APA title and reference page. Be sure to use parenthetical citations as necessary (apastyle.org).
