Instructions
This assignment is designed to introduce you to anti-bias classroom activities. Alone or with one other classmate, you will select an anti-bias activity for young children, submit a typed report, and share your activity with classmates. In addition, you will need to create a display board documenting the implementation of your activity with young children, and/or you can create examples/samples of the completed activity. For in-person classes, you will present the display board, and/or samples in person. For online classes, you will only use the discussion board to post and share your paper, which will include a picture of your activity.
Your activity needs to involve the creation of something or be hands-on for children (for example- making a book would be ok, but not simply reading a book to kids). Note: Some of the activities in the Creative Resources book are outdated, so you will need to make sure your selection follows the guidelines below.
Create a typewritten overview of your activity, including a picture of your completed activity, or if you did the activity with your children you can document it with photos. The typed report is worth 30 points. The overview must include the following information, in order. In this one instance, if you got your activity from the Creative Resources book, it is OK TO COPY any relevant info directly from the book for your activity.
Your activity must clearly explore differences in one of the following areas: racialized identity, gender, economic class, ability, or family structure. Must INCLUDE
Title of Activity and page number (or where you found it), 2 points
Appropriate Age Group: infant/toddler, preschool or school age, 2 points

Prepare a model interview sheet that is divided into large columns titled Things We Like and Things We Don’t Like. Down the left-hand side, list four categories such as Food, Sports, Books, and Music, and encourage children to add other areas important to them. Within each column create two subheadings, ME and MY FRIEND. Have children work in pairs, interviewing one another and filling out individual forms. In the end, the children will have a visual chart of how you can lie to a friend and share similarities and differences.
For those who are more competent in writing, ask them to write a short paragraph describing how they can be so different yet feel so much alike.
Things…
That I like
That my friend likes
That I don’t like
That my friend doesn’t like
Food

Sports

Books
