Each student must pick one of the topics covered during the course and write a letter to an elected or appointed official advocating for a policy or program that will improve the health of diverse populations. The elected or appointed official can be from either state or federal government. The letter can be no longer than 1 page and must focus on only one issue. Make sure that you pick an appropriate official for your policy or program. If you have selected a state level policy or program to advocate for your letter should be director to a state level official.
Each student must include a cover page along with their letter (i.e., the assignment will be no longer than 2 pages – 1 page for the cover and the second page for the letter). The cover page must include two summaries:
1. The topic selected, the policy or program for which the student is advocating, and the reason the student selected the topic and policy/program.
2. The elected official, their contact information, and the reason this official was selected to receive the letter.
The cover page is not a letter and has no required format. The cover page is for informational purposes only and is NOT part of the letter.
The City to focus on is Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
The health issue to focus on is air quality.
Attached is a sample letter as a guide to follow.
Keep in mind, this should be two pages including the cover page and not exceeding two pages.
