we focus on documenting the ten sources and writing the ten annotations. The Annotated Bibliography is the second assignment that leads to the final Research Paper. For this assignment you will create a list of 10 citations to books, articles, and documents, followed by a brief (usually about 150 words) descriptive and evaluative paragraph, the annotation, informing the reader of the relevance, accuracy, and quality of the sources cited.
Citations- What is the process?
• Locate and record citations to books, scholarly articles, and documents that may contain useful information and ideas on your topic.
• Briefly examine and review the actual items.
• Choose those works that provide a variety of perspectives on your topic.
• Cite the book, article, or document using the appropriate style (MLA).
Annotations- What do you write?
• Write an explanation summarizing the central theme and scope of the source showing that you have read and understand it.
Include one or more sentences that:
• Evaluate the authority or qualifications of the author.
• Comment on the intended audience.
• Compare or contrast this work with the worth, effectiveness, and usefulness of the others you have cited.
• Explain how this work illuminates your topic.
• Include relevant links to other work done in the area.
Other important information about the annotated bibliography:
1. You need to have 10 annotated sources.
2. MLA Documentation
3. Remember to list sources in alphabetical order.
4. You must note if the journal article or database information is peer-reviewed.
5. You will be scored in the following areas: Quantity of sources; Quality/Reliability of Sources; Variety of Sources; Writing Fluency of Annotations; MLA Documentation. (See the Assessment Rubric for Annotated Bibliography (UTEP) for scoring breakdown.
