1) Grade Level Writing Samples: Go to this website and find the folder of writing samples for the grade level of your Social Studies Curriculum Unit. You will see that there are several types of writing samples (e.g., narrative, opinion, augumentative, informational) and 4 samples of each type of writing. I want you to choose 2 types of writing samples (e.g, narrative and informational) to review. One of them should be informational writing since that is mostly what we write about in social studies. If there is not an informational writing option at your grade level choose 2 of the options provided.
2) Review all four student writing samples for each of the 2 writing types (so you will be reviewing 8 writing sample in total).
2) Use the attached graphic organizer (the same one we used in class last week) to record your analysis of the student writing and determine your Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3 student grouping and what you need to teach each of these groups of students. Additionally, brainstorm how you would want to teach each of these groups based on the strategies you have learned in both Professor Shanahan and Professor Ferrara’s courses to apply the strategies you have been learning about.
I have included a copy of the DANCE strategy to help you – please use this as a self-monitoring checklist to go through the process of analyzing this data!
Please upload your assignment by Monday May 2nd end of day.
