Objective: You will create a visual representation for publication with major points in relation to the history of the novel.
History of the Novel: The history of early English literature is a bit hazy when it comes to the “original English novel.” Some of the earliest novels, like Beowulf, were written as epic poetry. Others, such as The Pilgrim’s Progress, were collections of moral advice that readers deemed less entertaining than a novel should be. Regardless of the readers’ beliefs, these lengthy compositions paved the way for the evolution of the novel to begin.
For this assignment, you will research the establishment and development of the novel as a literary genre. Then, you will create a visual presentation of the history of the novel.
Your response should include the following:
the use of a graphic that is similar to a timeline
five relevant works listed in that timeline that include the year and author of each publication
one sentence to explain the importance of each work in the development of the novel
proper use of spelling, grammar, and sentence structure
