Choose a literary theory we studied in class and write an analysis of a work of literature using that specific theory: Feminist theory, Postcolonial theory, or Marxist theory
Use MLA citation format correctly
Be prepared/willing to read around your topic—historical, cultural, medical, literary, biographical research will be necessary in order for you to thoroughly understand your topic and write an effective analysis (as in: do the research). Any sources you use should be cited carefully and correctly using MLA citation format (other citation formats are acceptable—don’t make one up). I will take points off for incorrect citations. You must use a combination of at least 6 primary and secondary sources (primary = novels, short stories, poems, plays, memoirs, biographies we read in class (choose 1-2); secondary = literary criticism and reviews, history, non-fiction commentary and analysis, peer-reviewed research—all research should be scholarly: find 4-5 sources).
Choose your topic and what texts you will focus on: you may focus on only one or two texts (no more than two—this is a short essay, and I’m looking for close analysis). 2. Strategize research. Investigate the databases to find scholarly, secondary sources about your topic. If you’re not sure what primary sources to use: you might start be researching the *topic* and see what other experts have said on the subject, including the primary sources they’ve used.
