Expliciation (2 Parts)
FIRST: So consider first about what you would present to colleagues and fellow STUDENTS concerning being ethical. What all is involved? Flesh it out, defining your terms and arguing connections. And see how you have this large body of work to build from already
SECOND: Then, once totally argued, turn your attention to the worthwhile life, the meaningful life, and the successful life. What is each of these? How are these accomplished? Are these potentially in conflict? How do I fix that? DEFINE WORTHWHILE LIFE, MEANINGFUL LIFE, SUCCESSFUL LIFE (CREATE OWN DEFINITON AND ARGUE FOR IT)
So focus on the positive and really dive into how this is influencing you personally in your life here as a student. But since you’re not going to go into a negative evaluation, instead, put yourself and your philosophy together with the other two. Does your position emphasize something the others do not? Do they need you? Is there something covered in their position that yours does not include, and so do you need them? How do the three of you work with each other in a coherent whole?
Evaluation PAragraph:
I evaluate the benefit of my position thus argued and applied.
The main way to argue for a benefit from your position is to show how this has alerted you to something you need to approach differently in your own life or how you have taken this to heart. Since this is your own position, this is likely to be the longest part of the evaluation.
The way to begin could be, “The benefit I see in my argument is … because …” or “I see a real strength in my argument for … because …” Be sure to argue the “because.”
What specifically is this changing for you? How will this impact your life and choices here at the university, in your major and beyond.
But you are not perfect, nor are you problematic necessarily. Does your position lack something that is covered by one or both of the other philosophers? How does your position work with the other two? Does your position rely on one or both of the other philosophers’ positions to be complete? How?
