The Final Project will analyze and report statistical findings on a dataset. Students will ask a research question about their dataset, and answer that question using statistics. My topic is on smoking and tobacco use.
I attempted to complete Part one of the final project. However, she gave me a 26/50. I will include all images of the rubric she has graded and sent back to me for part two. Part two is the completed essay, in which I need you to do. Part one I have attempted. The paper is one smoking and tobacco use. You will also see what I typed and the data sets I have made. She said some was incorrect. You have to ask a research question about smoking and tobacco use, the data set and then answer the question using statistics.
Presents relevant background information on the topic
Asks a research question and sub-questions that can be answered using the dataset
Presents a statistical analysis of the dataset which includes:
Descriptive statistics (mean, median, mode, range, and standard deviation)
Two (2) different graphical representations of data from the dataset
Two (2) different hypothesis tests on data from the dataset
Answers the research question(s) in the results and conclusions sections
Incorporates proper citations for all external sources referenced, including the dataset
Includes an Excel file with all data and work for the analyses presented in the paper, attached as a supplemental material.
The hypothesis tests and graphs chosen should not be repeated. If the first graph is a scatterplot, the second graph cannot also be a scatterplot. If the first hypothesis test performed is a two-sample t-test, the second hypothesis test should be something else (don’t just perform another two-sample t-test on a different column of data).
Students must use some of the data in their assigned dataset, but they are not required to use all of the data in the dataset. Students are also welcome to supplement their datasets with additional related data. All data must be properly referenced and cited.
The Final Project is split into two parts:
Part I will consist of a complete draft of the Final Project assignment. Part I will be submitted via Blackboard by the end of Week 13 (4/24) and is worth 50 points.
Part II will consist of an updated draft that incorporates all Instructor feedback from Part I submissions. Part II will be submitted by the end of Finals Week (5/6) and is worth 150 points.
The Final Project is a formal academic paper. Submissions must be in Microsoft Word format and comply to APA (7th ed.) formatting standards. There is no length requirement, but students are required to adequately address each of the required sections. Proper references and in-text citations must be used; all submissions will be analyzed for plagiarism. All of the results presented must be accompanied by their analyses in Microsoft Excel as a supplemental material; these analyses should be attached as a single Excel file, with a properly labelled sheet for each analysis. Part I submissions are worth 50 points, Part II submissions are worth 150 points, collectively accounting for 20% of the final grade in the course.
