I choose technology because it is one of the most important words in our society today, it is just the continually developing of different things and advancement of society. One of the great technology innovations was the printing press made in 1450, It helped spread martin luthers writings to the people so the can read the word of god and help Luther get more popular throughout the world . The printing press was also cheaper then manuscripts and illustrations , which where way more expensive and only for people who had the money. Overall the printing press helped the Protestant Reformation spread thought Europe and change the view of the Catholic Church and what they where doing to the people through Luther writings.

Next the big technology innovations was the ships. musket and gun powder, which was a very big game changer. In chapter nine it said “vastly outnumbered, the force of 600 soldiers under the command of Hernán Cortés (1485–1547), equipped with fewer than twenty horses and the superior technology of gunpowder and muskets, overcame the Aztec armies”. When the Spanish came to the new world with guns they basically where able to take everything over and destroy the native people of the land. The ships where able to bring different resources back from the new world to Europe like hores, pigs, sheep , corn , tobacco and vice versa. This created Columbian exchange where the new world was getting different resources they never had and there land before. This innovations created a new complex world which mad the world more interconnected which made it seems much bigger.

The rise of technology, and especially photography, impacted the life of the artists to a great extent. Painters became irrelevant to some extent. But railroads , on the other hands, helped the painters to travel to the countrysides, and paint new images. With rising technology, life became very fast paced. People became busy, machines came up, and artists tried to capture these fleeting moments and hence their subjects and topics changed too. George Eastman invented the Kodak camera, helping make photography accessible to the public. The rise of photography made artform easily accessible, portable and also cheaper. Hence this was also ridiculed by the higher sections of the society as cheaper forms of artform. So painters and artists started looking for somethings that could not be reproduced by a camera, and this gave its way to – abstract art, artists began to express ideas, and feelings through abstract methods which a camera could not do. Thus technology definitely impacted the artforms but also led to the emergence of new ideas in art.

Thus, steam power, coal, iron and steel became the material resources for the increasing development and power of the West which ultimately allowed countries like the United States, England, France, Russia and Germany to expand a trade at a rapid rate. The era is known as the age of materialism as the repaid industrial and urban growth allowed the Western states to establish their dominance over less industrialized countries in the New World.
