You need to show that you have read the book or have a good understanding of Magic Words: The Extroaordinary Life of Alan Moore. I attached the quidlines document please follow it strictly. 5 pages double spaced.
I provided the link of the book on amazon, if you are able to find a free read of it great, if not will you still be able to get a good understanding of it or buy/read it some other way.
I am also going to copy and paste the guidline right under this line in this text box.
For this paper you will write a 4-6-page review of a book-length work of comics
scholarship or comics history of your own choosing. In order to write the review,
you will need to read the book in its entirety.
The Book
The book can be anything written or edited by a scholar, professional cultural
critic, or historian. If you get permission from me first, you may also use as your
book a memoir or autobiography written by a comic book creator. You cannot use
either of the scholarly books that you are required to read for this class.
To find a book that interests you, you can search in JumpStart, search in Google, or
search in Amazon. You could also ask me or a librarian to help you find a book on
a topic that interests you.
Note that although the library has a fairly large physical collection of scholarly
books on comics, there are many, many more that the library does not own. If you
want to read a book that the library does not own, you should request it via EZBorrow or ILLiad. Keep in mind, however, that it can take time for these books to
arrive; you’ll thus want to order them as soon as possible.
The Review
The review should include the following:
• A summary of the book’s over-arching argument, perspective, or
purpose.
• A summary of the book’s content: if the book has a small number of
chapters, you will want to summarize all of them; if the book has a large
number, you will want to summarize those that are most important.
• Paraphrases and the occasional quotation with parenthetical citations.
• Description of the writing style or styles.
• Judgement of some form as to the book’s merits and defects.
