Congratulations! Having completed your degree at CSUN, you have managed to secure a job working in DC for the Mayor’s office as a policy consultant. After settling into your new office, you’ve received your first major assignment. The Mayor is looking to develop some new initiatives to address pressing
problems within the District and you have been chosen to help drive this process. You have been tasked with identifying an important issue in DC that needs to be addressed, develop a memo on why the Mayor should focus on that issue, and outline some possible responses to the problem. In short your memo should address:
• What the problem is.
• Why the problem is important to DC.
• What are some possible policies to deal with the problem?
• What roadblocks exist that would make adopting the plan difficult?
The Mayor is a busy person, so your brief should be relatively short, around 7 or 8 pages, not including any graphs or figures. The Mayor does not expect an in-depth research project at this time, but your brief should include some background research, so be sure to cite any resources that you use to develop your proposal.
