Essay Two: Develop an argument for a particular method of literary interpretation (refer to Gordon Harvey’s “Elements of the Academic Essay”) by showing precisely what you can accomplish with it. Prove your thesis with specific references to a primary and secondary text. 7 pages.
So, this essay should do everything Essay One did (first essay: used close reading to show precisely how you interpret the text, and refer to a secondary source to define key term) (i.e. close reading of The Tempest), but also include a second source that uses a particular method. I would suggest Lévi-Strauss “Structural Study of Myth,” but you can also choose Richter “Mapping Critical Theories” or Barry “Beginning Theory.”
