There is no specific prompt for this paper but to discuss anything we would like about Philosophy and specifically the content in Schiller’s “Letters on the Aesthetic Education of Man”
An idea to write about are the two tensions I see as remaining unresolved in Schiller’s whole argument: 1. the tenson between conceiving of art and beauty as having a social purpose and conceiving of them as being radical autonomous, free from any function; 2. the tension between understanding art and the aesthetic as an intermediary state (between the sensous and the “rational”) and of understanding both as a final state in the development of individuals and societies.
