The speech is your final exam. Be sure to read Chapter 12 (Test), Module 16
Guide, and the Instructor’s Guide for Presentations before you start recording your
speech. I will be looking for a strong opening, good organization, transitions, a
strong closing, and how persuasive you are in your presentation.
Opening – A strong opening could be any of the following related to your subject:
a short story,
an alarming statistic,
a quote, a question, or some other attention getter.
Organization – you might want to use Monroe’s Motivated Sequence:
attention- attention-getting device
need- establish the problem
satisfaction- provide a solution
visualization- visualize benefits of the solution
action- reinforce solution with a call to action
Transitions – Transitions serve as signposts and help guide the listener from one
point to another. Types of transitions can be found by viewing this video.
Closing – state that you are closing and summarize your topic.
