14.2 Final Exam

For your final exam, you will answer two of the following questions. There is not a page minimum for your responses, but be sure to thoroughly address the prompt and provide specific examples. For example, you may discuss the historical context generally, but you must provide clear examples from lecture and the reading.
Treat your responses as essays. Remember to include a thesis with specific examples to prove your claim. Good responses will include the following characteristics:
A thesis statement that clearly expresses your position.
Consistent commentary on the significance of your examples in proving your claim and situating your arguments within the context of this course.
Cause and effect explanations of significance.
A satisfying conclusion. This is not a mere summary of your points
1. How did the First World War usher in the modern era? What events took place during the war that came to define the 20th century? How do historians define the modern era? Make sure to include economic and political definitions in your discussion.
2. How did ideology come to define the post-World War II era? What were the main ideologies that came to define the post-war era? How did it cause the Cold War? What was the Cold War? Make sure to include containment and proxy wars in your discussion.
